CARC Communication Trailer –
Simple, Smart, and Purpose-Built
The CARC Communication Trailer is designed with two operator stations, each staffed by a team of two volunteers. One person focuses on voice communication (RADO – Radio Operator) while the other handles digital messages, maps, and logs (DATO – Data Operator). This setup allows for smooth teamwork—whether during an emergency or while giving demonstrations at public events.
Both stations can handle all types of communication, but each one has a primary role. Station 1 is geared toward emergency response and communication support. Station 2 is set up for educational outreach, with connections to an outdoor TV and speaker system to engage with the public.
What’s Inside the Trailer and Why It Matters
Radio Systems: The trailer has powerful radios that let us talk to people locally or even across the world—without needing the internet or cell service. Whether it’s a neighborhood event or a major emergency, we can stay in touch.
Digital Tools: Using computers and special software, operators can send emails, share maps, log activity, and track weather all without the internet. The computer screens are mirrored so both team members stay on the same page. Built-in GPS keeps everything location-aware.
Public Safety Scanner: We can listen in on local emergency services like police and fire to stay updated on what’s happening in real time.
Wireless Data Network: The trailer has its own private “internet-like” network that doesn’t rely on traditional services. It helps us share live video, phone calls, and other data—even when other systems are down.
Custom Sound System: Each station has its own audio controls, so volunteers can listen to whatever radio traffic they need—individually or together. We can also play radio conversations outside the trailer for demonstrations or public events.
Staying Powered Up, Anywhere
The trailer includes a strong, smart battery system that can run everything without needing to be plugged in. It charges automatically when connected to a power source or a generator and even works off a regular household outlet if needed. This means we’re always ready, even during power outages.
Comfort Onboard
Since volunteers may spend hours inside during events or emergencies, we added things to make it more comfortable:
A small fridge and microwave
A coffee maker
USB charging ports
Heating and air conditioning
These features help keep everyone alert, focused, and ready to serve.
What’s Outside
TV and Speakers: A large screen and outdoor speakers help us show what we’re doing—perfect for events, school visits, or training sessions.
Antenna Mounts: Three built-in flagpole-style mounts let us quickly raise antennas to get signals out far and wide. They’re strong, simple, and quick to set up.
Connection Panel: A weather-resistant box outside the trailer makes it easy to plug in radios, antennas, power, and network cables—without running wires through the doors. It keeps things neat, organized, and safe.
